I got a pair of mic/volume control earbuds from a friend of mines, but I have a 3rd Generation 8GB ipod touch. I read posts online that the earbuds WOULD work with my ipod touch, but is that true? If so, how do I get it work?

Yes, they do work with your iPod Touch.
To use them, plug them into your iPod and listen do music. Single clicking the middle is play/pause, double clicking skips the song, and tripple-click goes tho the previous song. The + and – buttons control volume. Have fun!
