Whats the deal with noise cancelling headphones?

I’m trying to buy some noise canceling headphones. I own an iPod and loves listening to music. I’m going to Ireland soon and sepearate from my crazy brothers aircraft using the noise-canceling headphones. (and I mean ESCAPE … Just as I close my eyes and just listen to my music) I am a student who struggles and I will not pay a ridiculous sum of money for these headphones. Bose looks great, but I’m not spending so much. What is the battery that most of them have? You can not just connect h’phones for iPod and listen? What is the battery? $ 65-70 U.S. dollars ISH would be the ideal amount to spend. I could really use suggestions. . . marks, to advise the battery, it’s worth it. . . . etc. Thank You!
